I liked The Survivors, but this episode I absolutely love. It's in my top handfull of favorite Star Trek episodes.
Picard is litterally willing to die for the ideals of the Prime Directive.
And his awe of the Mentakins potential is really moving.

The terrain of Mintaka III should look familiar. It's where Kirk fought Finnegan in 'Shore Leave' and where Kirk fought the Gorn in 'Arena'. Those are the Vasquez Rocks.
I believe they filmed scenes from 'Alternative Factor' and 'Friday's Child', as well.

No way!! That is so cool!!
Picard should not of been whispering when he said "increase to Warp 9".
Good thing Data has excellent hearing.

I saw this in a re-run. As I've mentioned before I didn't watch much TNG in its first run until I caught Best of Both Worlds, Part 1 one night after night school. When I saw this episode I was floored. This was really good stuff. I was impressed.

Somehow, I missed this episode in the original run.
And every rerun cycle.
I have literally seen it only once before, and only because trivia about Insurrection referenced an episode I'd never before seen.

Of course, since they didn't yet know about the environmental damage of warp travel, one wonders why they didn't just hit maximum warp from the start.

it's a favorite, to be sure. I do tend to get pissed at Ray Wise's character for being such a dipsh*t

Since this is one of my favs, I've seen it several times. You'll note that in one (or more) of the TNG movies, Picard has a Mentakin keepsake on his ready room chair.

Of course, if they're related to Vulcans, how did they get here without space travel being involved? In which case: does the Prime Directive even apply?
gnomes? you're full of gnomes? where exactly are you keeping these gnomes?
Do you really want to know?

The Penn Dutch are a pragmatic people. Clearly they'd understand the implication that any god, including theirs, could be a false one.
With Cthulhu, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and the Invisible Pink Unicorn being the obvious exceptions, of course.
