With glee I skipped into my favorite comic shop today and purchased a NEW Firefly comic- Serenity the first of three in the Serenity Better Days series by Dark Horse Comics. I think I'll need to hold it and stare at the cover for a few days and savor it before I read it. Can't rush something this good. The guys at the shop and the folks at The Signal all say a graphic novel on Book is due out this year too.
I'd say this qualifies as great damn big news.

Thanks Dawn! I'll have to find my local comic store tomorrow in the big damn city and find mine! I admire your self restraint...I'll probably read most of it before I walk out of the store. :D

Dawn, where do you go to get your comics? I have almost nothing over here in East Mesa.

Any inkling as to what part of the year? I do not know of any reputable comic shops here that I would feel up to visiting. I am more inclined to purchase a graphic novel.

I wish we had an easily accessible and reputable comic shop that is otherwise well known here. For now, I know not what that might be.

Is this out online anywhere? I live 4 hours from the closest thing that thinks it's a comic shop and with gas for my truck hitting $3.34 a gallon, it's highly un-likely I'll get there anytime soon!

It looks like mailordercomics.com carries it (http://www.mailordercomics.com/result.asp?search=serenity&image1.x=0&image1.y=0).

I got to Atomic Comics, they have four locations, one down in Mesa I believe. Check them out and sign up for the weekly newsletter, that's how I make sure to get my BSG comics right away.
I'm on vacation now (for a true fun vacation I could spend time on the forum without the family moaning and groaning but alas...) so I can't look up links about the graphic novel on Book, but The Signal site has a forum too, so there might info from them.
Happy Spring Break all!

No worries, CA. The forum is a big place, and it's hard to keep up.

I was a bit disappointed with it. It seemed too... super heroic... I looked for another adjective but they didn't fit. I mean, Kaley hanging up on the ceiling of an overpass like some gorram ninja?? Keep it simple folks. Also, mecha just don't belong in the 'verse (imo). I'll probably peruse the second issue before I plunk down hard cash for more of this kinda fair.

I still haven't read it. Just looking at it makes me SO happy, I'm afraid that warm fuzzy feeling will end. Plus seeing Wash on the cover with his hand in Zoe's...

Hey there Browncoats.
I decided to make a new thread for the next book to make it clear when it is coming out and not have the fact get lost in the prior Better Days thread.
I am pretty gorram excited.

I haven't gotten a chance to pick mine up yet - we've been having nasty weather for a couple of days now. I wasn't too impressed with the first issue though - so i'm hoping the second one is better.

I highly recommend this three part series to anyone who loves firefly. Great Comics and very reminiscent of the show. Let me know what you think once you have read them. I still haven't read the first three comic set so I still need to pick them up and check them out. But like I said Better Days was great.

Is that the series that takes place b4 the movie or the new series that just came out?

It's the newest set of three but it is also before the movie because a certain person is there, if you know what I mean.

Ok, I haven't read the latest series. My sister was telling me about it. I did read the series that lead up to the movie. I really liked that one.

Yeah it seems Chuck is only interested in the Star Wars comics. :p
I suggested that he should change the name to Star Wars Expanded Universe because there so much more to the EU than just the comics.

I also recommend it. was it me or did it seem better and longer than “Those Left Behind?” I absolutely loved when the monk said something to the effect of “It’s the hero of Canton! He is real!” LOL.
Can’t wait for the Sheppard Book series.

I read Better Days quite awhile ago now. I'm going back to reread it -now. I totally don't remember that!!

I didn't get it at first either. When Mal went to warn Inara, he saw Simon coming out of her shuttle before he got knocked out. I didn't get that was Simon because it's a comic, and when someone is draw as if they are far away, you can only tell who it is by the cloth they wear.
But by the time they were all back at Serenity, Mal asked "I seemed to remember a strict policy about servicing my crew" and Inara saying something about Simon is a friend and a doctor and that's all Mal needs to hear. That's when I realized the guy coming out of the shuttle was Simon.
Of course it could be like the pilot when Inara said she gave Simon a free thrust just to piss off Mal, but Mal knew that was sarcasm, and this time it seems like he doesn't.

ok, new realization............ I have heard several reveals in Con videos that Inara left the comfort of Sihnon because she is going to die.
If that is the case, and her pride has prevented her to share that information with the Firefly crew thus far, she probably arranged a secret appointment with Simon to get a second opinion.
And Mal just ran into that before getting knocked out. And the confrontation afterward is exactly a repeat of what happened in the pilot.

I too hated the cover art on Better Days. Here's a review I did on Ain't It Cool News that is in line with what everyone here is saying (please forgive my chronology faux pas)

I'm also interviewing Shepard Book (Ron Glass) about the prequel book today, will hopefully post article and audio soon.
