I always figured she was never really sure if Leoben was lying to her, and that her bond wasn't necessarily the bond of a mother to a child. She didn't really have time to build a permanent bond. Had her captivity and caretaking of Kacey gone on longer, I think you would have had to pry Kacey from her cold, dead hands. But when faced with the woman reacting so tearily to the site of her baby, Kara had to face that Leoben had indeed lied to her.
