Having stumbled across various pictures of GWC members in my time here, it's nice to be able to put to a face to the name (especially when the avatars change regularly). Finding those pics, on the other hand, is fairly random, so it might be helpful to have a repository of self-pics.

So, if you're interested, post pictures of yourself here in this thread. If there's more than one person in the picture, identify who's who.

Seriously, right? I needed a headshot for some gigs and I couldn't afford a photographer who specializes in artists, so I had to go with JC Penney. I don't use that picture anymore (though sometimes people use it when they find it online).

It's my usual policy to pass the blame on to someone else (usually on to you Beav but in this case it wasn't practical.)

I think the origin of the New Jersey thing is you posted a photo of something and your bookshelf was in close up view behind it. And there was not a single German language book in sight. So I said, "Galaxy Ranger is totally faking the whole German thing". And Solai replied "Yeah, GR is totally from New Jersey." (or something like that.)
And I'm like Annakin Skywalker in that I don't let go of things. Hence, I refuse to let go of the New Jersey thing or the Beaver thing.

True. In fact, Batman's cape is actually a special fabric that turns rigid and remembers its wing shape when it is charged with an electrical current. Does that mean its not really a "cape"?

There are actually scientific papers on such phenomena (http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/110517235/abstract)...

Nothing sells scientific research paper like the keyword combination "electroejaculation" and "gorilla".

Need to weigh in on the cape issue. I understand the potential dangers, but they are so damn cool and empowering. Cloaks fall into this category as well. Imagine a Jedi or Sith without the cape/cloak. No way! So I say yay to capes and safety be damned.

TFG- your girls are so beautiful! When I see cute little girls like that, I look at my sons, who haven't brushed their teeth in days, and wish I had girls  That feeling lasts until I see a piece of Hannah Montana merchandise.

Batman uses his cape for more than just flapping it in the wind. How would he swoop down on the bad guys without his bat wings? I got to get to that movie.

ExacTly, If Batman got rid of the cape he would have to change his name to Ratman. A name like that won't help you out with the ladies either.

It was my natural color as a child, but as most red-heads and blondes know, lighter hair tends to darken as you age. So it's chemically enhanced, shall we say... My natural color is a darker red-brown now. But I do have the freckles and tendency to blistery sun-burns...

Don't you just hate when nature takes away the best part and leaves you with having to be careful in the sun. I mean if you have to suffer with the bad at least you should be able to keep the good. I am what many call a strawberry blond. I have to be very careful with the sun which is difficult in Florida. My hair is a bit less blond these days but I still have read highlights.

5o spf means you can stay in the sun 50 times longer than without it. That means 50 minutes for me. The only way I "tan" is when my freckles get together.

No, luckily there was loud boisterous fan in my section wearing a Redskins jersey that pretty much took the heat off of me. After an altercation he was escorted away by the cops to a chorus of "Ass [Sorry Barb] Hole, Ass [Sorry Barb] Hole". The best part was the poor father behind us to thought it was a good idea to take his 9 and 5 year old daughters to the game. The little one was chanting "Ass (Sorry Barb) Hole, Ass (Sorry Barb) Hole" the rest of the afternoon and wouldn't stop. That will be fun to explain to his wife....

FL is evil. I wore sunscreen pretty religiously because I'm wicked pale but I still think 12 years living there just killed my skin. I already have a pre-cancerous spot on my forearm which I like to call my scale. Must have been all those summers as a day camp counselor.

I have one monster-freckle on my shoulder from where a patch of about 5 of them fused into one big one. That one I actually kind of like. I also have three toe-freckles.

Yeah, RMHPH is probably the palest person I know...almost transparent.

I had a transparent girlfriend for a few years. No, not in that she was my girlfriend who no one could see b/c she wasn't real! She was just that pale. Came from Seattle so her skin had never met the sun. We'd hang out at the beach and she'd be dressed up as a ghost with a wide-brimmed hat. It was cute, actually, but kind of silly.

Ditto on the hair getting darker... I was a blonde child, to light brown with blonde highlights. The sun used to bring them out and the base color would get tawny when I was younger. But now my hair is pretty much just a lightish brown, and my highlights arent as bright as they used to be. It's sad. My mother suggested that I help it along... but I always loved having naturally what everyone else had to 'help along.'

Plus, to my in-laws, I'm still blonde. ;)

But I can tan. I also use sunscreen like crazy, so I've only been sunburned once in my life. Please don't hate me.

My hair was very fine and platinum blond when I was born. My hair steadily got darker and coarser until high school, until it was very thick and dark brown at 17-18. Then it got slightly lighter, then thinner, and then receded. Now what's left is gradually turning grey.

The circle is almost complete. :)

In case anyone is interested (and even if you're not):
Here's is ThotFullGuy's hair color history.

Born: Kinda dark brownish I think

Age 1 through 25: Brown, maybe turning to a tinge of red/rusty in the summer.

26: First gray hair appears.

27 to 35: Gradual progression from brown to "Salt&Pepper, heavy on the pepper".
35 to 44 (present day). Gradual progression from "Salt&Pepper, heavy on the pepper" to "Salt&Pepper, heavy on the salt."
And I've vowed never to color my hair. I don't have any particular problem with the idea of men coloring their hair, it's just not me.

It was actually the 3rd year for us. That was the roughest. After that, it's been, well not smooth because life throws curve balls at you. We've been more of a team since then, though. It was hard for me to integrate into being "we" instead of "me" in terms of making decisions and whatnot. And when you have children, it's important to be a team. Nothing made me love my husband more than seeing him nurture my children.

Well, I'm 33 and have no grays. My great grandmother was also a vibrant red-head. She lived to 88 and by that point had only started to go white, so her hair was kind of peach-ish. My mom is mid-fifties, and she only has a few white hairs at her temples. My hair dresser told me that red-heads rarely go gray, since their base color (without pigmentation) is usually lighter. They usually just go white.

Yeah, that third year is apparently pretty crucial to most marriages. Most marriages that don't last seem to break up at the third year or before. Our third year together was also a bit of a trial, although looking back it doesn't seem nearly as challenging as this year has been (we just celebrated our seventh anniversary last month). And yet, somehow, the trials this year don't seem nearly as insurmountable, even if they are more challenging.

As usual, I'm late in the fun thread talk.

1) About SPF and the sun- I've had melonoma (the really bad skin cancer) and I'd advise everyone to stay away from tanning. I grew up in CA in the days when we put baby oil or Crisco on our skin to tan. I have a three inch scar for a tiny spot that was removed, so everyone be careful!

2)Wedding anniversaries- I've been married 18+ years, and I'd recommend a trip away without kids. Doesn't matter where as long as there's housekeeping services for fresh sheets and towels. We do gifts to each other every five years, that way they're fun and special when we get them.

3)Hardest year of marriage? Any year there are big changes- new baby, move, job loss, etc. We've had all of those and more. Most important thing in a marriage? That you like the person. If you can't have laugh out loud moments with your partner, I'm not sure it will work. Day to day life is really pretty dull with bills, work, the kids spilling soda on the carpet. If you've got someone you like next to you, it makes all the difference.

4) Merging gutter/question/spin the bottle threads- I'm all for trying new things. It's probably time to make the gutter thread feel fresh and new.

You know, I'm still not really sure how that happened in the first place....

It would explain his fascination with Ron's hair...

Yeah it’s funny how that works. My older brother who had white-blond hair had it change to completely pitch black when he reached his twenties. The same thing happened to me, except it turned a copper color. FRAKING COPPER!! I didn’t even know that was possible!

My three siblings, including my twin sister, are all blond and fair-skinned. I came out with dark hair and black eyes. My eyes are dark brown now, but I'm still brown-haired and olive-skinned. My sideburns and bottom of my beard sometimes show a little red, but I think that's fading out.

I never got a sunburn until the age of 21. I would be outside all day in the summer and just get darker and darker and darker. Nowadays, I usually catch a sunburn about once a year if I'm not careful. The magic is gone. *sigh* :(

Don't I wish we could use boobies as an alternative energy source!

Funny you should mention that. According to a story on Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me! (http://www.npr.org/templates/rundowns/rundown.php?prgId=35&prgDate=06-28-2008&view=storyview) someone is doing exactly that (play the "Opening Panel Round").

And by "funny," I mean "coincidental," not "unexpected." ;)

OK, I finally went through a box of old photos to find the pics from Halloween 1998 (you can tell from the Bill Clinton next to me). Anyway, that's me as pilot Luke. Got into two separate light saber duels with two different Vaders. Ran into an Endor Luke and Leia pair. Our costumes matched each other perfectly, as I look more like early Luke and he looked more like a post-motorcycle crash Mark Hamill. Then a Princess Leia in the white ANH gown came bounding across the street to give me a big hug.... All in all a pretty good night...

No, no, no. Don't get mad at Poofy. My grandfather had an old saying, "Never be as funny as you can." I know and believe Poofy meant no ill will. I am not sure I can describe why altering the picture rubbed me the wrong way. The picture isn't something I share much at all and I was taken aback even tho on reflection I know it was meant as an innocent jest.

No harm, no foul. The original is restored. As full disclosure seems necessary, here is the story behind the picture:
I am at my sister's birthday party in NYC. Not a lavish affair, maybe 40 to 50 people in a private upstairs room in a bar. About an hour into it I am tapped on my shoulder by a friend of my sister and told,

"I'd like you to meet my old friend Morena"

...

and there she was. Inara. Holding out her hand to me with a huge smile on her face. I held out my hand trying to play it cool but clearly something in my face revealed something. She started giggling and asked, "what?" to which I simply responded, "I am a fan."

One of the most surreal moments of my life. To come face to face with a person who was associated intimately with this little cancelled show I was so passionate about. I had given the Firefly box set to two of my other siblings who were there that night and later reported they hadn't watched them yet.

So there I stood, trying desperately not to be, "One of those fans." I did not gush. I did not ask her a technical question related to a moment in the series. Didn't ask what the needle was for. We simply had a lovely conversation. I learned she was in town visiting her mutual friend before heading on to Vancouver to shoot Stargate.

"Do you like the show?" she asked.

"Well" I said, "I have to be honest. I haven't seen it in many years."

She laughed. "Well, it should be fun, right?"

"I'm sure!" I replied, "and heck, I am more than a few Browncoats will turn out when it airs."

I told her about how my mother bought me a barn jacket which was brown, and I couldn't share the joke with anyone. She wanted to know how I had found the show, and I told her about how I found it quite by accident late in the game, but not so late that I couldn't go and see the movie just as it was winding down.

I didn't want to keep her from her friend that she was visiting, but felt like I could talk to her all night. We parted ways and for the rest of the night she sat at the bar like anyone else sipping a drink and talking to her friend.

As I left I went over and gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. I thanked her for our talk, and mustering up my courage said,

"You know, you are part of something very special."

She blushed and said, "I know."

I left walking on air. All I can tell you, my fellow Browncoats, that if the rest of our BDHs are half as open, humble, sincere and lovely as Morena was with me that night, then they are all truly wonderful people in real life.

That is a great story, Solai. I saw her at one of the chicago conventions, and it was really clear how much she loved Firefly and working on it. Both she and Jewel Staite got teary-eyed talking about it, and how much they appreciated the fan response. I suspect you made her just as happy as she made you.

Here is a picture of me with a very nice woman I met at a bar. She said she was an actress or something...I didn't catch any details.

EDIT, removed and since returned.

FWIW, Solai has been altering other people's pictures for a whole lot longer than we've been altering his pictures. And since it's really hard to tell which pictures people do not wish to be photoshopped unless they explicitly say so, I think it's just a little bit unfair to give Poofy a bad conscience about it.

Also, I still think it's absolutely funny. The Suburb Joker :D

What does the Suburb Joker do to be evil?

Mess with people's Christmas lights? Blow up trash cans? Tip cows? Cheat at the weekly poker game? Steal Mrs.-Smith's-from-next-door's underwear?

I'm still learning. I've seen Serenity but have only made it through the first 20 minutes of the first episode of Firefly (also called "Serenity," no?). I've heard mostly good things but one of my friends, who is a fan of other Whedon stuff, dissuaded me from getting the boxed set since she said the show left her cold. So I decided just to watch it on HULU, which, of course, I've had lots of time to do.

I will get to it, hopefully very soon. I feel like I'm missing something very important out in this community because I'm something of a Firefly virgin, so I really, really want to get into it. Perhaps when Elena is in school I'll finally have time to watch more old TV. In the meantime, it's all I can do to find time to compose these days (and by "these days" I mean the last year).

Armando…you still haven’t seen Firefly??!! Don’t make me come down to DC!! I am sure I could get Starbucaneer to assist in forcing you to watch it. And she is a lot more vicious than me too (watch out for the guitar to the head from her evil alter ego).

Seriously though, I have the Firefly BluRay preordered, so if you are serious about watching Firefly, just PM me and I will send you one of my soon to be old DVD sets (I own two), I would honestly be glad to do it, if it nets a new Browncoat.

Edit: amy, there must be a story about how you met Starbuck! Awesome pic by the way.

Thank you! CreationCon did a huge SG-1/SGA/BSG/Xena con in Chicago last summer, so I got to meet Starbuck, Lucy Lawless (omg, even hotter in person, if you can believe it), Tahmoh Penikett, and I can't even remember who all else was there. My friends and I geeked out and sprung for the gold seat tickets, so we got to hang out at dinner with Katee and Tahmoh; they were both fantastic. The two of them are extremely good friends, and gave some of the best con interview/Q&A I've ever seen. She went first, then he went, then she joined him onstage and they proceeded to be completely insane for almost a solid hour. Excellent fun.

My story isn't even 1/10024358796th as cool as Solai's. hee.

Well, I was serious. I live in Vermont and for me to mail a small lightweight package to DC via standard/uninsured will cost probably just a little under 5$. If you like BSG you will love Firefly, but you just have to give it a chance. If you are not a fan after “Jaynestown” I will be greatly surprised. I am sure after you are done watching it you can help pass it along (or maybe you will like it enough that you will just not want to give it up). I love Firefly; it helped get me through some dark days.

If you send it media mail (http://www.usps.com/send/waystosendmail/senditwithintheus/mediamail.htm), it's even cheaper (I shipped a VHS for like 2 bucks, much better than the normal shipping rates).

Media mail appears to be the new term for Book rate - and I never see it listed as the services at the post office, so you have to ask for it. But it's well worth asking, because you save lots of money. It just has to be a package with only media - books, DVDs, tapes, etc.

I'll PM you the details then. I have to say, that the first line in the pilot after the flashback to the war, which is a reference to a non-hit from the Beatles White Album, won me over, so it's just a matter of finding the time to watch. I do appreciate the kind offer, though.

I always go to http://www.usps.gov and do domestic rate calculation. Once you enter the weight / type of package, then you'll get all your choices of how to send it. Media Mail should be one of them. It includes pretty much any printed material, CD's, VHS, DVD's--you know, media. :D
